TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama coach Nick Saban and the football team are moving on. Saban has put to rest the speculation that he would replace Mack Brown at Texas by striking a new deal with Alabama. For the third-ranked Crimson Tide, the focus is on getting over the loss to Auburn and trying to finish the season strong in the Jan. 2 Sugar Bowl against No. 11 Oklahoma. Saban had said Friday night after agreeing to a new contract reportedly worth about $7 million a year that he planned to retire at Alabama. He said "there were no talks" between his representatives and Texas and pointed to comments on ESPN that he "never considered going to Texas." "I think Ive already made a reaction to that," Saban said. "Dont you watch ESPN? Didnt you see what they put down across the bottom line. Thats my reaction to it. "I dont have any more reactions to it. I think its kind of over so why do we want to talk about that? We look forward. Im looking forward. I made a commitment to our players that are here and Im happy to be committed to them and I want them to make the same kind of commitment to the program and to their future success." Brown announced his resignation at Texas on Saturday. Several Texas regents and a former regent were involved in a meeting with Sabans agent last January to gauge the coachs interest in coming to Texas. Saban found the best way to quash that talk: Re-upping with the Tide. Receiver Kevin Norwood never doubted it. "I went home for the break or whatever, and everybody was basically talking about it," Norwood said. "And I was like, Coach Saban is not going anywhere. And whatever social media was saying, whatever was happening after that, I pretty much ignored it." Alabama (11-1) returned to the practice field on Tuesday for the first time since the Iron Bowl. The game was tied until Chris Davis returned a missed field goal 109 yards for a touchdown on the final play to effectively end Alabamas bid for a third straight national championship. His son, Nicholas, and daughter-in-law had a baby on Sunday. The sometimes gruff Saban lit up talking about the experience that got him to the hospital in the wee hours. "To have a healthy baby and a healthy mother and someone that beautiful come into your family is really something that you have to count your blessings on," he said. "They actually had a rocking chair over there so I was kind of happy rocking that baby a little bit. Since then, I havent been able to go back. "I kind of miss the little bugger if you want to know the truth about it." People have realised we are here for wrestling, not anything else.BRIE: When we came in, you were very much your characters on TV, but with social media and Total Divas you have understood who we really are. We are now ourselves - Vince McMahon let us wear our own clothes and have our own gimmicks and that took our careers to the next level. Vince McMahon is the chairman of WWE We saw how emotional Daniel was when he had to retire - does being General Manager of Smackdown fill the void?BRIE: I think so - he is still surrounded by wrestling and still gets to be creative. Its obviously hard that he cant get in the ring but to be around his friends and part of the business in some way helps him, even though he will tell you: Yeah - but I want to be in the ring!NIKKI: He is a good General Manager - but I have to tell him: Look at the opportunities the women on Raw are getting [such as Hell in a Cell]! Seriously, he is doing an amazing job - his presence and the way the crowd reacts to him takes our show to a whole new level. The place has become my home and Im looking forward to 10 more years.Which women from other sports have inspired you over the years?BRIE: Even though they have retired now [former American womens soccer players] Mia Hamm and Carla Overbeck were great influences on us. We played soccer growing up and it wasnt that big in the United States, but Mia and Carla made it something.NIKKI: Ronda Rousey is definitely one - I find everything she has done in UFC so inspirational. Serena Williams is another - she reminds me of John Cena in a way, in that they have stayed on top of their game for so long and so many people still connect with them. She still blows my mind.Do you think Ronda Rousey to WWE is a natural progression? Stephanie McMahon wants it to happen. She is a fan, first off, and the movements in the ring between UFC and WWE are the same.How does football - or soccer, as you keep calling it - help you in the ring?NIKKI: It certainly helps me with my footing. When we started training with WWE, coaches were impressed and asked if we had had boxing training. I said no, it was all soccer. As a defender, I had to learn to stay on my feet, track backwards and I feel all the movement I do in the ring was helped by my soccer background.BRIE: Our coach was actually from England and he was very strict with us - teaching us discipline and drive. We have taken those into wrestling and thats what helped us excel so quickly. We knew hard work paid off. When weve worked hard, we want to work even harder.Is football getting bigger and bigger in the States all the time?NIKKI: Its so big and people dont want to feel left out. They think: Right, I need to buy a Manchester United jersey and go to a bar to watch the game. I live at the beach in California and am blown away by how many people I see walking around in soccer shirts on a Saturday.BRIE: Our brother is a die-hard fan of Arsenal. You nail it!NIKKI: As for TV, it has to be The Office - the British original, not the American version. There is definitely a different sense of humour between Brits and Americans, but Brie and I dont really laugh at the American comedies and movies.
